Avaplas Ltd. Named First Certified MuCell® Processor

Leading Singapore Injection Molder Producing MuCell Parts for Hewlett Packard

October 15, 2001 - Woburn, MA - Trexel, Inc. announced today that Avaplas, Ltd. of Singapore has been named the first Certified MuCell® Processor. Trexel is the worldwide leader in the development and commercialization of the MuCell microcellular process technology. Avaplas is a leading supplier of high-volume, precision-molded, plastic components and sub-assemblies.

David Bernstein, Trexel's President and C.E.O., stated, "Avaplas has totally embraced the MuCell technology and is now reaping the rewards of its commitment. Avaplas' demonstrated ability to produce commercial MuCell parts while achieving improved manufacturing efficiencies has led to a significant expansion of its business opportunities as exemplified by the printer components it is producing for Hewlett Packard. The company is to be congratulated for its achievements."

Mark Berry, Trexel's Director of Technology Support, stated, "To be considered a Certified MuCell Processor, Avaplas was required to demonstrate world-class quality assurance procedures, demonstrate capability to produce high-quality MuCell parts in various materials, show an unyielding commitment to meeting customer requirements, and have in-house engineering and mold maintenance services. The MuCell training provided to Avaplas included extensive instruction in theory. processing and design skills to allow Avaplas to extract the maximum value from the technology. The certification criteria also include having parts in 24-hour production and trained processors and engineers on staff. Avaplas met or exceeded each of these criteria, and is deserving to have been named the first Certified MuCell Processor."

Boone Quek, Avaplas Chairman and C.E.O. stated "When Avaplas first became a Trexel licensee, we recognized that the successful commercialization of the MuCell technology would allow us to significantly expand our business. However, along with that opportunity came the responsibility of making the necessary capital and manpower investment to operate a full-time MuCell manufacturing area. Today, Avaplas has achieved its commercialization goal and has been named a Certified MuCell Processor. Having gone through that certification process, we are now capable of properly serving the needs of any customer wishing to have MuCell parts and sub-assemblies commercially manufactured."

About Trexel

Trexel is the exclusive developer of the MuCell microcellular process technology and has an extensive portfolio of patents in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. Trexel's primary business is licensing the MuCell technology to injection molders, extruders, and blow molders. It also provides world-class engineering support, training, and other services to licensees, as well as equipment and components integral to the MuCell process. In support of these activities, Trexel operates a plastics development laboratory in its Woburn, Massachusetts facility.

About the MuCell Technology

The MuCell process is suitable for a wide range of injection molded, extruded, and blow molded products as it allows licensees to reduce product costs while enhancing design and processing. MuCell parts, which have a solid-like appearance, contain less material than parts produced through other methods, yet maintain most of their former properties. The process also can eliminate stress, warpage, and sink marks, and greatly improve productivity. These benefits allow designers to specify lightweight, polymer-saving foam materials for products in which conventionally foamed materials would be unacceptable.
