Italtech Licenses Trexel's MuCell™ Microcellular Process Technology

Leading Injection Molding Manufacturer Accepts Orders for Two MuCell™-Capable Injection Molding Machines

March 26, 2001 - Woburn, MA - Trexel, Inc. and Italtech announced today that they have entered into a licensing agreement for Italtech to supply injection molding equipment utilizing Trexel's proprietary MuCell™ microcellular process technology. Trexel is the worldwide leader in the development and commercialization of the MuCell microcellular process technology. Italtech is a major manufacturer of custom plastic molding equipment, with particularly strong ties to the automotive industry.

David Bernstein, President and CEO of Trexel, stated, "Italtech has a very strong following in the automotive market, and is a welcomed addition to Trexel's growing legion of authorized plastic equipment manufacturers. By joining this group, Italtech is now able to satisfy the needs of its customer base for the state-of-the-art microcellular processing technology, which is MuCell."

Rob Janisch, Trexel's Sales Director-Europe, stated, "Italtech has already accepted orders for two 3000-ton MuCell-capable injection molding machines and has had ongoing discussions with another tier-1 automotive supplier. In the near future, Italtech will also be installing a large tonnage MuCell-capable injection molding machine in its laboratory in Brescia, Italy. This machine will be available to Italtech customers to evaluate their MuCell applications, prior to licensing the technology from Trexel."

Adelio Grasselli, Managing Director of Italtech SpA, believes the MuCell microcellular process technology will help Italtech end-users, especially with automotive industry applications. The fact that the MuCell process can be used for every application, involving virtually any thermoplastic material, enables Italtech to offer an all-inclusive technical solution for microcellular foam processes.

About Trexel

Trexel is the exclusive developer of the MuCell microcellular process technology and has an extensive portfolio of patents in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. Trexel's primary business is licensing the MuCell technology to injection molders, extruders, and blow molders. It also provides world-class engineering support, training and other services to licensees, and supplies them with equipment and components integral to the MuCell process. In support of these activities, Trexel operates a plastics development laboratory in its Woburn, MA facility.

About MuCell

The MuCell process is suitable for a wide range of injection molded, extruded, and blow molded products as it allows licensees to reduce product costs while enhancing design and processing. MuCell parts, which have a solid-like appearance, contain less material than parts produced through less-current methods, as millions of tiny air pockets take the place of materials while allowing the part to maintain most of its former properties. The process also can eliminate stress, warpage, and sink marks, and greatly improve cycle time. These benefits allow designers to specify lightweight, polymer-saving foam materials for products in which conventionally foamed materials would be unacceptable.

About Italtech

Italtech, which manufactured its first press in 1984, constructs injection machines for the molding of thermoplastic materials. Italtech's presses have been completely revamped as regards to dimensions and technology. Italtech processes range from injection-compression to low pressure, from sequential injection to injection with gas, to automatic adjustment of temperatures (presses and die) and integrated control of peripheral equipment.
