Uniloy Milacron and Trexel Extend Microcellular Foam Agreement to Cover Blow Molding Applications

Technology will be an Option for all new Equipment - Retrofit Package to be Available for most Uniloy, Non-Uniloy Machines

August 1999 - Woburn, MA - Uniloy Milacron has expanded its exclusive microcellular foam license agreement with Trexel to include blow molding, as well as previously announced low-pressure structural foam applications. Trexel will apply its proprietary MuCell® foam process to Uniloy's intermittent blow molding technology. "We will offer the MuCell technology as an option on new machines, and as a retrofit package for a wide variety of existing blow molding machines, both Uniloy and non-Uniloy," said Jeff Newman, Uniloy's vice president of sales and operations. "We believe the delivery of a MuCell foam parison with the intermittent extrusion process will be an attractive technology on any machine platform, regardless of the clamping system."

The exclusive license agreement covers reciprocating screw, accumulator head, and external ram accumulator machine technology, as well as adaptation to extrusion shuttle machine platforms. Uniloy also obtained a non-exclusive license from Trexel for continuous parison extrusion systems.

By using supercritical fluids of atmospheric gases as physical blowing agents, the patented MuCell process significantly reduces the weight of conventionally blow molded parts and may improve cycle time and production speed. To integrate and standardize the technology on commercial equipment, Uniloy is providing Trexel a blow molding machine and processing expertise.

"After obtaining an end user license from Trexel, customers will be able to obtain a new Uniloy machine equipped for the MuCell process, or a complete retrofit system for either Uniloy or most non-Uniloy equipment," Newman added.
